Your phone is probably holding thousands of photographs. But how many of them do you actually see?
We take photos of everything.
Our babies. Our pets. Holidays. Birthdays. Weddings. Ordinary Tuesday afternoons. A funny face someone pulled in the kitchen. The last photo we took with someone before we realised it would become important.
Then we keep scrolling.
The photo gets pushed further and further down the camera roll until, eventually, we barely remember it's there.
Your camera roll isn't really keeping your memories visible.
Digital storage is incredible. We can keep more photographs than generations before us could ever have imagined.
But keeping a photo and seeing a photo are two very different things.
A photograph can technically be safe on your phone for years while still becoming almost invisible in your everyday life.
A memory doesn't need to be lost to disappear from your everyday life. Sometimes it just needs to be buried beneath another 8,000 photos.
The ordinary photos are often the ones that matter most.
We tend to think the photographs worth printing are the big ones.
Wedding photos. Professional family portraits. First birthdays. Beautiful holidays.
And of course those deserve a place in our homes.
But some of the photos that become most meaningful aren't perfect at all.
- your toddler's messy curls one morning
- your dog sitting in their usual spot
- a blurry photo of everyone laughing
- a selfie with your mum
- your kids asleep in the car after a big day
- a completely ordinary afternoon you didn't realise you'd miss
Those are the moments that make up our lives.
Printing a photo changes the way you experience it.
Once a photograph leaves your phone, it becomes part of your environment.
You walk past it.
Your kids notice it.
Someone points to it and tells the story behind it.
You see it while making coffee, packing lunches or standing in front of the fridge trying to work out what you're going to cook for dinner.
That's one of the reasons I love personalised photo magnets.
They don't ask you to create a perfect gallery wall or find another space for a photo frame.
They simply put the memories you already love somewhere you're going to see them.
You don't need professional photos.
One of the biggest misconceptions around printing photographs is that the photo has to be perfect first.
It doesn't.
Some of my favourite photo magnets are made from completely normal camera-roll photos.
They might have imperfect lighting. Someone might not be looking directly at the camera. The house might not be spotless in the background.
None of that changes what the photo means.
Sometimes the best photograph isn't the technically perfect one. It's the one that makes you feel something when you see it.
Start with the photos you'd be devastated to lose.
If you've got thousands of photographs on your phone, choosing which ones to print can feel like another job.
So don't start with thousands.
Start with nine.
Scroll through your camera roll and ask yourself which photos would make you stop if you saw them on the fridge tomorrow morning.
Maybe they're the people you love most.
Maybe they're a particular season of life.
Maybe they're memories of someone you don't get to see anymore.
There isn't really a wrong answer.
Your photos deserve more than digital dust.
I'm definitely not suggesting we all print every photo on our phones.
We'd need significantly bigger fridges.
But I do think there is something valuable about choosing a handful of memories and giving them a physical place in your life.
Because the days move quickly.
Kids change.
People change.
Homes change.
And the completely normal photos you're taking right now might one day be the ones you're most grateful you kept visible.
Pick nine photos from your camera roll.
Turn the photographs you don't want to forget into personalised photo magnets handmade in Sydney and made to be seen every day.
